ACTEON is a non-profit organization which fosters rural development through hunting, fishing and outdoor holidays.
Welcoming city-dwellers for outdoor activities is a way to diversify the income sources of farmers and foresters.
The programme was initiated in 1996 by a group of hunter and angler societies, with the support of the ministries of Agriculture and Environment and hunting and fishing agencies.
ACTEON holidays are not in commercial hunting estates dedicated to shooting, but in territories which keep their farming or wood production purpose.
Hunting provides an extra income for the farmer or the hunters’ local society which thus gets resources for the improvement of the territory.
This approach contributes to a sustainable development which ensures the compatibility of the presence of a rich and varied wildlife with the profitability of the farming and forestry industry.
